McCain, Udall look for signs of climate change at RMNP

On Monday morning, U.S. senators Mark Udall and John McCain wandered a short way into the meadow at Hollowell Park, looking for signs of global warming.

The bipartisan pair wandered down the trail in Rocky Mountain National Park, bending to look at a patch of cheatgrass — a non-native plant species that is taking advantage of warmer temperatures to forge its way deeper into the park — and pausing to take in the clumps of red-tipped pines that have been killed in a pine beetle epidemic exacerbated by global warming.

Monday marked the end of a four-day tour that the senators made to examine the impacts of climate change on national parks, during which the congressmen visited both the Grand Canyon in McCain’s home state and Rocky Mountain National Park in Udall’s.
