State Animal Inspector Investigated

Child Welfare Reviewed After Colo. Deaths

Colorado lawmakers have are considering increased oversight of its child welfare system following the deaths of 35 children under its care over the past three years. Under legislation approved Thursday by the Senate Health & Human Services Committee, the child protection ombudsman office would be set up as an independent office in the state Department of Human Services. The bill now goes to the Senate Appropriations Committee. Gov. Bill Ritter ordered a review of the system two years ago following the deaths of 13 children who had been involved in the child welfare system in 2007. Eleven more died in both 2008 and 2009.

Another Assault Reported Near Auraria Campus

Jury Finds Willie Clark Guilty Of Killing Williams

A jury on Thursday found suspected gang member Willie Clark guilty on all 21 counts against him in the death of Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams. Pat Bowlen, the president and CEO of the Broncos, said after the verdict was announced that it is “very gratifying to see closure brought to this case.”

2 Ariz Men Arrested In Robbery Spree Case

Authorities say two Linden men have been arrested in connection with a series of armed robberies of banks and credit unions in four states. FBI officials say Joel Jay Glore and Ronald Michael Capito were taken into custody Thursday after a week of surveillance. The men, both in their early 50s, are suspected of being the so-called “High Country Bandits” who robbed up to 16 banks and credit unions in Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah since September. The Arizona robberies were in Flagstaff, Heber, Pinetop and Payson.
