MotherLode tournament brings the beach to Aspen

On nearly all accounts, Aspen is an unlikely place to hold a beach volleyball tournament.
 
First, at just over 7,900 feet, it’s certainly not the ideal location for athletes who mainly sprint and jump. And, well, there’s obviously no beach in site.

Two recent residential real estate auctions ended up with completely different results. A custom home in Carbondale’s River Valley Ranch (RVR) neighborhood failed to sell at an auction last Thursday, while bidders bought up all 14 lots from a Rifle-area ranch five days earlier.

United adds flights to Houston

It’s going to be easier for Texans to get to Aspen this winter.
 
From Jan. 4 to April 2, United Airlines will be flying out of Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport daily at 9:18 a.m., with a scheduled arrival time in Aspen of 11:08 a.m.
 
A return flight will leave Aspen each day at 2:35 p.m. and land in Houston at 6:05 p.m.

Senior housing advocates make offer on Moore parcel

The Aspen Valley Medical Foundation (AVMF) has made a $12 million offer for a critical piece of land on which it hopes to build a senior housing center, but the parcel is currently under contract to another buyer.

AVFD provides mutual aid; removes person from elevator

The following was activity logged with the Aspen Volunteer Fire Department between Aug. 26-Sept. 2.

• On Aug. 27 — At 12:35 p.m., AVFD provided mutual aid response with Aspen Ambulance in the downtown area.

• On Aug. 30 — At 6:39 a.m., AVFD responded to a residence to remove a person from an elevator.

Domestic violence, shoplifting and underage drinking

The following activity was logged with the Aspen Police Department from Aug. 26-Sept. 2.

• On Aug. 27 — At 12:20 p.m., Kevin Joseph, 26, of Aspen, turned himself into Aspen Police on an outstanding warrant from another county. After confirming the warrant, Aspen Police Officers placed Joseph under arrest and escorted him to Pitkin County Jail without incident.

PitCo Jury convicts Clark’s Market thief

A Pitkin County jury convicted an Aspen man of felony theft and conspiracy charges Thursday afternoon, for stealing more than $1,700 in groceries from Clark’s Market with the cooperation of two store clerks.

Xavier Samson, 40, faces a prison sentence of two to six years for the theft-in-a-series conviction, and one to three years for conspiring to commit that theft.

PitCo attracts opposition in water court
