The Wrights are ready for some ‘down’ time

Longtime community advocate Norma Wright and husband David are retiring to the coast. “It’s a good time for me to say goodbye,” she said Tuesday. After securing a contract on their Granbury house over the weekend, the couple was traveling south this week to look at property in Corpus Christi. Norma said the couple had been thinking about the move for some time. “We’ve been wanting to move somewhere that’s a little bit warmer in the winter,” she said. Norma said she is retiring from her public life and plans to spend more time with her husband.

Parents of band students meet tonight

Hunter education course set Aug. 21-22 in Granbury

A Texas hunter education course will be held Aug. 21 (9 a.m.) and Aug. 22 (1 p.m.) at the Granbury Resort Conference Center, 621 E. Pearl St. in Granbury, according to instructor Jeremy Ballew. Class size is limited to about 30 students. It’s open to anyone born on or after Sept. 2, 1971. The minimum age is 9, and the cost is $15 per person. Arson suspect now facing three felony charges

Kelly Otis Petty, 54, of Blackfoot Court in Comanche Harbor south of Granbury — the arson suspect in the fire that destroyed the home where he formerly lived with his girlfriend — is now facing one first-degree felony charge and two third-degree felonies, according to fire marshal Brian Fine. He was arrested on July 22 after a 16-hour standoff with deputies and other law officers at Kelly’s Auto Repair on Contrary Creek Road.

Hood County man accused of felony assault on wife

James Lynn Enochs, 40, of Granbury Court in Granbury Acres, has been arrested and accused of assaulting his common-law wife by putting a pillow over her mouth, according to Hood County Sheriff’s Office lieutenant Johnny Rose. The charge, a third-degree felony, is assault family/house member impede breathing/circulation, jail records indicate.

Women have district workshop

The Woman’s Wednesday Club and Granbury Woman’s Club recently hosted the 2010 Pioneer/Trinity District Workshop at deCordova Bend Estates Country Club. Woman’s Wednesday Club president, Jeanell Morris and Granbury Woman’s Club president Nancy Keeler directed the activities of the host clubs. This event was attended by 99 members of the federation.

Buckman competing in Junior Olympics

Granbury’s Alex Buckman will compete in the Amateur Athletic Union Junior Olympics in Norfolk, Va. next week. She will long jump Monday and triple jump Wednesday. This is her first trip to the AAU nationals.

New Tolar field house near completion

Tolar head football coach/athletic director Mike Franklin said the new field house is expected to be completed by Aug. 3. The facility, estimated to have cost around $700,000, will have a grand opening celebration Aug. 6 at 6:30 p.m. There will be a hot dog supper, complete with homemade ice cream, and visitors can take a tour of the facility.

Richie memorial this Saturday

A memorial service for Lowell and Keri Richey, killed along with the three-member Rodney Duree family in a plane crash last month near Ruidoso, N.M., will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in the auditorium at Granbury High School. The couple’s sons, Alex and Kristopher, who were both injured in the crash of the twin-engine plane, are expected to be in attendance. The boys are being cared for by relatives in Houston.

Council won’t charge admission to City Beach

The Granbury City Council has decided not to charge admission to the City Beach - a move that had been suggested by the city’s finance department to help cushion a projected budget shortfall. Mayor Rickie Pratt said the city will, however, charge reservation fees for the covered pavilion and picnic tables, which have been the source of turf skirmishes.
